Spore Series III

Providing Stewart with an opportunity to follow a more conceptual path, Spore Series III brings together male and female forms in the same piece. The indentations to the front of the piece echo the seeds of the female and the extension at the top symbolises the male.
Here Stewart is concerned with balance, not only within the conceptual make up of the piece but in the qualities of the material. Using the thickness of the glass, transparency, pattern and colour Stewart manipulates the eye around the piece and provides weight and texture.
Series (III) represents the culmination of development which began with large pieces in Series (I), much smaller pieces in Series (II) and now the tallest pieces Stewart has ever made, at over 1m high, in Series (III).
